We are reviewing our cat keeping local laws and this is the second round of community engagement.

From March to May 2019, we asked you to Have Your Say on our current cat and dog keeping local laws. We received 2,346 responses in total, 1,058 were specific to keeping cats in Logan.

Currently, you can keep 2 cats on any sized property. All cats must be registered, desexed, microchipped and contained within their property boundary.

We asked about the following topics:

  • General cat keeping requirements
  • Effective control of cats

    This will run for three weeks starting on Monday, August 26, which coincidentally is International Dog Day.

    A total of 2346 responses were received in Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ survey as part of a review of some existing laws for keeping cats and dogs.

    Cats and dogs are part of the Logan lifestyle and in the future, it is likely our city will have smaller blocks and higher density living. With this in mind, for six weeks (25/03/19 - 06/05/19) we asked for the communities insights on specific sections of our cat and dog local laws.

    Our initial community engagement phase which incorporated numerous static displays, community and campaign specific events and a constant online presence has closed. We are now reviewing and considering over 2,000 community responses and preparing the draft local laws for keeping cats and dogs in Logan. We expect that...

    Cats and dogs are part of the Logan lifestyle and in the future, it is likely our city will have smaller blocks and higher density living. With this in mind, for six weeks (25/03/19 - 06/05/19) we asked for the communities insights on specific sections of our cat and dog local laws.

    Our initial community engagement phase which incorporated numerous static displays, community and campaign specific events and a constant online presence has closed. We are now reviewing and considering over 2,000 community responses and preparing the draft local laws for keeping cats and dogs in Logan. We expect that the draft local laws for cats and dogs will be available for community feedback late August 2019.
