Creating a city renowned for its vibrancy, culture, opportunity and safety and a place of choice to work, live and visit is a high priority for Council. A key element towards achieving this is building a thriving night-time economy (NTE).

What is the night-time economy?

When we think about ‘the economy’, we usually think of what happens during daylight hours (6.00am to 6.00pm). However, the economy doesn’t stop at night and neither do vibrant cities.

The NTE consists of all non-domestic activities which take place as the traditional ‘business day’ ends – between the hours of 6.00pm and 6.00am.

At night, places take on a different pace, function and atmosphere. These changing dynamics create more business and entertainment opportunities but also more community needs. A NTE Strategy is required to maximise these opportunities while preserving community interests.
