Public Art Initiative

Logan City Council has received $1.02 million under the South-East Queensland (SEQ) City Deal Public Art Initiatives program. We are now seeking artists, designers, partnerships or consortiums of artists who are interested in creating public art projects for the city. Expressions of interest are invited for public art commissions for 3 public art projects across the city.

The artwork locations have been selected as they meet the SEQ City Deal guidelines, the objectives of the fund, deliver on Council’s Urban Art Strategy, and enhance the built environment.

The Public Art Initiatives is a commitment under the $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal between the Australian Government, Queensland Government, and the Council of Mayors (SEQ). It is designed to enhance place-making and promote a more liveable South East Queensland region through Public Art and Architecture.

Public art projects

A large-scale vertical sculptural landmark can be located to attract views from the M1 and act as a gateway for the City of Logan. The form can feature integrated lighting and express environmental and cultural values. Click here for more information on Project 1.

Customised creative signage and the commissioning of artwork that depicts the history of the railway line with a particular focus on the trial heads and key entry point for the Rail Trail to be constructed on the disused rail corridor. Subject to budget the artworks can be expanded to include artworks along the trail once constructed. Click here for more information on Project 2.

Installation of a functional art trail with art installations to serve a dual purpose of being functional objects and artworks. They may take the form of sculptural seating elements, shade structures, bike racks and play elements. Functional artworks can provide platforms for rest, relaxation and recreation, and add a distinctive flavour to the urban environment and should provide “Instagrammable” opportunities across centres across the city from major, district, neighbourhood to local centres in Divisions 3,5,7,8, 10 and 11. Click here for more information on Project 3.
