Urban Art Strategy for Logan's Activity Centres

Consultation has concluded

What is Urban Art?

Urban Art is a place-based creative practice which enhances built and natural environments and adds value to the urban character and cultural identity of a city.

Urban Art involves a diverse range of art-forms, creative interventions, production methods and design applications for generating both permanent and temporary (including participatory and event-based) outcomes.

Urban art is a broader term than public art and includes creative placemaking collaborations and outcomes such as:

  • Creative / interpretive signage
  • Integrated street furniture design
  • Creative lighting
  • Bespoke playscapes
  • Place activation events
  • Public artworks and installations - temporary or permanent

The city centre summits identified, more vibrancy, street art, public art, creative lighting and activation of Logan's centres as key priorities for the community. The purpose of Draft Urban Art strategy is to develop a framework for the implementation of Urban Art projects in Logan's Activity centres to:

  • improve amenity
  • attract more people to the city centres and;
  • activate disused spaces.

The vision for the Urban Art Strategy will be achieved through five strategic objectives which relate to an action plan.

The development of the strategy was guided by the development of an extensive consultation process which included:

    • A series of interview with internal Council branches
    • Briefing to Council's elected officials
    • One - one interview with some elected officials
    • A focus group with external artists
    • Interview with external business and arts stakeholders
    • An online survey asking the community to help shape the future of urban art

    Outcomes from the consultation determined:

    • Why Urban Art is important
    • What should Urban Art include
    • Where should we have Urban Art projects
    • How we can deliver Urban Art projects

The Draft Urban Arts Strategy is now available for the community to review (via the document library) and we are seeking your feedback.

You can have your say on the draft via the feedback tab above or by clicking here.
