A large-scale vertical sculptural landmark can be located to attract views from the M1 and act as a gateway for the City of Logan. The form can feature integrated lighting and express environmental and cultural values- such as the entwined organic form of the Love Flower sculpture by John Meade which is based on an ikebana flower arrangement.
Background
This location was identified for a city landmark artwork in the Urban Art Strategy community engagement. The area is one of the first of Logan’s centres that are visible from the M1 when travelling south from Brisbane.
Site description
The site is on the eastern side of the M1 and is visible from multiple roads with high volumes of vehicle traffic. The site is below the M1. The site is on a slope within a wide verge that ranges from 20m to 10m in width.
The V1 cycling infrastructure, is on the western side of the M1 where the yellow and black bridge creates a landmark. When travelling from the West side of the M1 to East along Springwood Rd the site is revealed through an underpass. When travelling from East to West and South via Rochedale Rd, the site is downhill. Travelling West downhill, the site is aligned with the vehicle lanes as the road bends north to join the intersection.
