Public Art Initiative: Project 2- Rail Trail precinct markers
Art Opportunity
Customised creative signage and the commissioning of artwork that depicts the history of the railway line with a particular focus on the trial heads and key entry point for the Rail Trail to be constructed on the disused rail corridor. Subject to budget the artworks can be expanded to include artworks along the trail once constructed.
Background
Removal of the rail infrastructure throughout the rail corridors in Logan provided the potential to create shared trails that connect key destinations throughout Logan City. A Rail Trail section was completed between Logan Village and Yarrabilba in 2020. The Bethania to Logan Village Rail Trail will transform 11.5 kilometres of historical rail corridor into a destination for Logan residents and visitors to enjoy. The Bethania entrance will also link with the future planned Logan-Gold Coast Faster Rail Project’s (LGCFR) Active Transport Corridor.
Bethania Station precinct- the northernmost entrance to the Rail Trail. This section will service local, commuters to the rail station, and for those accessing the trail via train. The Logan Gold-Coast Faster Rail project will transform the precinct area and accessibility from Station Road. The Rail Trail will join the Station area from the east and final site design will depend on the LGCFR project. A secondary site opportunity is 500m south of the train station where the trail runs between Station Rd and Church Rd for approx. 250m
Site description: Location 2
Logan Village- The trail is planned to run along side the Waterford-Tambourine Rd to connect to the Yarrabilba trail. There is a signalised crossing at the intersection of Anzac Avenue, which connects via Logan St to the Logan River trail and to the Village Green. An existing art installation “Forest of memories” is located approx. 100m to the north of the Yarrabilba trail. The area is subject to flooding so the artwork will be sited to avoid impacts. This area of Logan Village between Quinzeh Creek Rd and Anzac Ave was the former location of the train station (the station has since removed).
