Scrubby Creek Recovery Plan Community Survey
This consultation has concluded.
Background Information
We are seeking your input to help direct our next urban creek recovery plan for Scrubby Creek.
Since the development and successful rollout of the Slacks Creek Recovery Plan in 2013, we have started the process of developing a Scrubby Creek Recovery Plan.
This plan will use an ABC model (Activate, Beautify and Clean), like the Slacks Creek Recovery Plan to create:
- Active Spaces: which provide the community with safe, connected open spaces, including activity nodes and cycle and pedestrian connections;
- Beautiful Areas: which provide an attractive, shady creek line, including places to rest and relax in a natural setting; and
- A Clean and healthy creek: free of litter and pollutants, trusted by the community, with healthy habitats for wildlife and aquatic animals.
We aim to create a key city asset, which provides places for people and nature, while also adding to the city's image as an attractive and sustainable place to live or visit.
The 'Scrubby Creek Recovery Plan' will assess the catchment’s current condition and considering the catchments values and risks. It will also identify opportunities to enhance the health and community connection to the creek.
We want to know what you think about the creek and how you would like to see the recovery take place.
Together, through the Plan, we can improve the current state of Scrubby Creek and embrace it as a real city asset. We can:
- revegetate creek banks;
- improve water quality;
- restore environmental corridors;
- re-establish natural systems; and
- create new and improved spaces for recreation, connection and enjoyment.
Thank you for your participation!
About Scrubby Creek
Scrubby Creek catchment is an urban catchment within the City of Logan (Click to view catchment map). Starting in the suburbs of Hillcrest, Boronia Heights, Park Ridge and Karawatha Forest. The creek drains east until joining Slacks Creek Loganlea Road, Meadowbrook. At 5716ha, the catchment is the second largest creek catchment in the City of Logan area with over 100km of channels.
The Scrubby Creek catchment includes a variety of land uses including residential, commercial and industrial. These uses place pressures on our waterways health and recreational uses.
The areas beside the creeks provide the local community with recreational opportunities, which support an active lifestyle and city livability.
