Background on the Youth Centre

Vision: The Wilbur Street Youth Centre is a space for Logan’s youth between the ages of 12 and 24 years to provide a safe, welcoming, vibrant and well used space that responds to the needs and interests of all of Logan’s youth.

Objectives

  • To provide a welcoming environment for youth between the ages of 12 to 24 years to meet, socialise, learn and participate.
  • To provide for opportunities that are youth driven to establish uptake, promote activation, and respond to changing needs and interests over time.
  • To provide an inclusive environment for youth of all abilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • To provide a space that has regard for community and personal safety of young people. Young people should feel comfortable using and accessing the space from various parts of the city and at different times of the day.

A partnership project

The youth centre was developed over several stages and included:

  • consultation with youth, service providers and other key stakeholders (click here for the engagement summary).
  • a needs assessment that considered consultation findings, case studies, and review of other information
  • a co-design process where local youth participated in a workshop to determine youth centre inclusions and design of the future youth centre.

These steps enabled Council to identify expectations and aspirations for the centre, which in turn guided the design and final layout of the spacious facility.

Logan City Council looks forward to the Wilbur Street Youth Centre coming to life!

  • Wilbur Street Youth Centre - Construction phase

Last week some of our Council team were lucky enough to visit the Wilbur Street Youth Centre.

Here is a sneak peak at your new youth centre.

  • Wilbur Street Youth Centre - How to get involved

Logan City Council is excited to announce the development of a new Youth space at 22 Wilbur Street, Logan Central and we want to hear from you!

The space is located next to and in the same building as the Logan Central Library. Previous studies and engagement have led to Council's decision for the space to become a future Youth Centre. The next step is to hear ideas and feedback from youth aged between 12 and 24, Your ideas and feedback will help decide the future use and design of the space.

The aim of the engagement process is to involve young people at every stage of the project journey. It is important that young people have an opportunity to shape final project outcome.

As part of this project Council wants to understand what the young people of Logan value. We want to know how you currently use spaces in and around the local area. We also want to know what you believe are gaps in what is currently provided. These insights will help us develop design ideas to test with you as the project progresses.

    How to get involved!

Get involved by completing the short survey. We also have set-up an interactive map. You can add a pin on the map to show the places you currently spend time in when you are not at home, school or work. Please also let us know why you enjoy spending time there and what sorts of activities you do there. The map will help Council to understand how you currently spend time in our City. Your input can inform the design of the new space.

Did you know we're also holding a workshop?

If you are a Logan resident between the ages of 12 and 24, we would love for you to participate in a workshop where you can actively help shape your future dedicated youth centre. All you need to do is register to attend our workshop using the link below:
